Himarë is a practical base for car day trips along the Ionian coast and inland. Himarë to Saranda is 50 km / about 70 minutes on SH8, opening Ksamil, Butrint and the Blue Eye spring; Himarë to Gjirokastër is roughly 95 km of inland heritage driving; and Himarë to Berat is a longer 180 km cross-country day. Coastal stops include Porto Palermo castle, Qeparo and Borsh, while the Qafë Botë and Kakavija border corridors suit onward travel. Plan fuel near larger towns and start early to beat summer traffic on the coastal road.
